SQL Fundamentals

This 3-day SQL Basics course is suitable for those with little prior knowledge. It teaches about the structure and operating principles of SQL databases, Familiarizes participants with the main SQL commands and functions and practically teaches them how to create simple SQL requests.

Target audience and prior prerequisites:

• Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.
• SQL database users;
• Data analysts;
• Specialists who have desire to learn about the SQL language and its application in various database management systems.

Prerequisites: Without prior knowledge. It will be easier for those who know any programming language.

Technology needed for the course: Computer with a camera and a microphone. Ability to install Microsoft SQL Server and SSMS.

Program:

1. Introduction to SQL language, databases and database management systems;
2. Key SQL commands and functions:
   • Basic SELECT;
   • ORDER BY;
   • DISTINCT;
   • Basic WHERE;
   • WHERE expressions;
   • Functions;
   • CAST;
   • GROUP BY and HAVING;
   • Subqueries;
   • Join.
   • Study methods: You can participate in the study by joining the training through the online environment Teams. The volume of training is 24 hours incl. 12 hours of practical exercises or group work in the training environment.

Assessment method: The achievement of learning outcomes is assessed based on feedback-based practical exercises or group works carried out during the training.
No certification exam

At the end of this course, participants will achieve the following skills:

• Understand the structure and basic principles of database operation and management systems
• Make simple SQL queries to databases in various database systems

Completion of training: Each participant receives a certificate of attendance after the course.

Trainer:
Vitalijs Verhovics has a strong background in IT and database management, with degrees from the University of Latvia and Universität Mannheim. His career began as a Junior Programmer at SIA Ozols Grupa, followed by roles at SIA Meditec and Squalio, where he managed IT systems and performed database maintenance. Currently, he is a Database Developer at PSI, developing and maintaining databases for business applications. His skills in MS SQL and various programming languages have been crucial in his roles. Overall, he has demonstrated versatility and technical expertise in optimizing system performance and supporting user needs.
